The Lives They Lived - Syd Barrett 1946-2006

7 July 2006 - Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett, one of the original members of legendary rock group Pink Floyd, has died at the age of 60 from complications arising from diabetes. The guitarist was the band's first creative force and an influential songwriter, penning their early hits. He joined Pink Floyd in 1965 but left three years later after one album. He went on to live as a recluse, with his mental deterioration blamed on drugs.

This was a video Syd made documenting his first (supposedly) experimentation with LSD. It was his use of acid that lead to his being dumped from the Pink Floyd. He literally turned into a zombie, doing things like standing on stage and just barking, or other outrageous behavior. Syd was eventually replaced by current Floyd guitarist and songwriter, David Gilmour, around the time of Pink Floyd's 1968 album, Ummagumma.
